The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has achieved a historic milestone, crossing the $30 billion mark at the global box office, thanks to the blockbuster success of “Deadpool and Wolverine.” This makes the MCU the first film franchise to reach this monumental figure.
The announcement came during San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H presentation, led by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. This record-setting achievement follows the film’s remarkable opening day, where it earned $96 million in North America—the biggest debut ever for an R-rated film and the sixth highest of all time, according to Variety.
The third installment in the Deadpool franchise, now part of Marvel Studios following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019, is being hailed as a potential game-changer for the Marvel brand. The film is projected to earn between $195 million and $205 million domestically and $380 million to $400 million worldwide by the end of its opening weekend.
“Deadpool and Wolverine” brings together the iconic Merc with a Mouth and the legendary X-Men hero in a high-stakes adventure. The plot revolves around Deadpool’s quest to save his universe and reawaken Wolverine’s sense of purpose.
This MCU milestone surpasses other major film franchises, including Spider-Man with $10.6 billion across 10 films, Star Wars with $10.3 billion from 11 films, and the Harry Potter series, which garnered $9.6 billion from its 11 installments. The James Bond franchise, with 25 films, has accumulated $7.8 billion globally.
