Yatharth Hospital in Noida has been thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, as a series of disturbing revelations paint a grim picture of institutional misconduct and negligence. The hospital, already plagued by controversies, is now under intense scrutiny following its alleged involvement in an illegal organ transplant racket and a series of other serious incidents.
The National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), the central body overseeing organ transplants, has demanded an urgent report from the Uttar Pradesh government after uncovering a major organ trafficking scandal linked to Yatharth Hospital. This scandal emerged from an investigation into Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi, revealing that a senior kidney transplant surgeon had been performing unauthorized organ transplants at Yatharth Hospital. The surgeon, D Vijaya Rajakumari, along with six others, has been arrested in connection with this international organ trafficking network.
The NOTTO has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to closely monitor the investigation and ensure that those involved face strict legal consequences. Despite the gravity of the situation, Yatharth Hospital’s troubling record doesn’t end there.
In addition to the organ transplant scandal, the hospital was recently raided by the Income Tax Department for alleged tax evasion. The raids uncovered serious financial discrepancies, adding another layer of scandal to the already tarnished reputation of Yatharth Hospital.
The hospital’s track record of negligence further exacerbates the situation. Last year, an incident at Yatharth Hospital’s Noida branch saw four people injured when a lift malfunctioned and plunged several floors. This horrific accident highlighted severe lapses in the hospital’s safety protocols.
The situation worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic when an FIR was lodged against Yatharth Hospital doctors under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for alleged negligence leading to patient deaths. The complaint, filed by the deputy chief medical officer of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Dr. Tikam Singh, underscores the hospital’s failure to provide adequate care during a critical period.
In response to the unfolding scandals, Yatharth Hospital has attempted to distance itself from the allegations, with statements claiming that the implicated doctor was a freelance contractor and that the hospital was not directly involved in the illegal activities. However, these assertions have done little to quell public outrage or alleviate the concerns of regulatory bodies.
As investigations continue and public scrutiny intensifies, the central question remains: Can Yatharth Hospital redeem itself from these severe allegations, or is its reputation beyond repair? The series of scandals paints a disturbing picture of a healthcare institution failing in its most basic responsibilities, leaving patients and authorities alike questioning its ability to operate with integrity.
