Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: CBI Considers Polygraph Test for Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is considering a polygraph test for Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as part of its probe into the shocking rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor. The move comes after investigators uncovered inconsistencies in some of Ghosh’s statements during questioning.

Earlier this month, the trainee doctor was brutally raped and killed inside the hospital’s seminar room. She had been resting there during a grueling 36-hour shift. Sanjoy Roy, a local civic volunteer, was arrested in connection with the crime after his Bluetooth headphones were found near the victim’s body.

The CBI has been scrutinizing Ghosh, who resigned from his position just two days after the crime. The agency is trying to determine whether the murder was part of a larger conspiracy. During interrogation, Ghosh was asked about his initial reaction to the murder and why the victim’s parents were made to wait for three hours before receiving their daughter’s body.

A CBI official stated, “We are considering a polygraph test to verify discrepancies in some of Ghosh’s answers. We need to ensure that all information is accurate and reliable.”

Additionally, Ghosh has been questioned about whom he contacted upon learning of the murder and the authorization for recent renovations in rooms adjacent to the seminar hall where the crime occurred.

The CBI recently obtained a court order to subject Sanjoy Roy to a polygraph test as well. This comes after the Calcutta High Court highlighted the need to question Ghosh early in the investigation.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court criticized the West Bengal government for delays in registering the FIR and questioned the actions of Ghosh and the hospital administration following the discovery of the murder. The court also noted that Ghosh had initially attempted to dismiss the murder as a suicide.
